We continue this tutorial of Drawgirl by explaining and illustrating the thirty-ninth step of this pastel portrait painting.

Since the face is coming together so nicely at this stage, the artist basically fine tunes and fiddles with the details. The scumbling which was begun in the previous step is completed in this one. Along her jaw line it is evident that some reflected light is being considered and placed. Whether it remains there will be determined in subsequent steps.
