We continue this Drawgirl tutorial by explaining and illustrating the eleventh step of this pastel portrait painting.





With this step, the underpainting is made ready for the "overpainting" so to speak -- is made ready for the flesh colors. The tonal underpainting development is a skill worth developing. Practicing it helps train the eye to recognize value changes and helps to limit the tones to about four.

With this you have just completed the last step of the tonal drawing. Now, on to what probably matters the most to you at this point... steps in the flesh-tone coloring process.
